- Anti-Spyware Programs: (Spyware or Adware are malicous programs that are commonly used to advertise software or websites that are of no use. Spyware will usually slow down your computer because of the amount of resources they are using.) Some good trusted FREE spyware removal programs are Ad-Aware SE Personal, and Spybot - Search and Destroy. Also, Microsoft makes Windows Defender, a pretty good program for Windows XP and newer Windows operating systems. Windows Defender runs all of the time to prevent newer spyware to be installed on your system. Although, sometimes you may find that even these won't stop some of the malware that might already be on your system.
- PC Cooling: Computers and heat don't mix. Your computer depends on a balance of cool air entering the system and the warm air being created in the system, being pushed out. Making sure your fans and system are working and clean from time to time will help maintain your computers performance as well as keep the needed airflow for your system.
- Cleaning your PC: Your computer is similar to a vacuum. It sucks cool air in and pushes out warm air. But with the air getting sucked in, dust, hair, tar, and other small airbound objects get sucked with it. Cleaning your system every couple of months will help decrease overheating, and system failure rates from malfunctioning hardware. To keep it clean, we suggest keeping a can of compressed air handy, available at Office Depot, Staples, Office Max, Best Buy and other electronic retail stores. Use the compressed air to blow away most of your dust and other foreign objects. If your computer is in worse shape, we advice that you have a trained professional perform more intensive cleaning. (We use a process involving special cleaning solutions that won't harm your pc.)
- Antivirus Software: Viruses are still a common PC cold. Less common than Spyware, but potentially much more costly to recover from. We advise that everyone have some form of Antivirus software installed properly on their computer systems. There are a few FREE programs that perform just as good if not better than store bought software. AVG Antivirus and Avast!
